Attractions and Events in The Netherlands.

The Netherlands boast hundreds of restaurants, cafes, bars and other establishments, from cheap basement venues to top-class dining catered by some of the world's top chefs. This section introduces you to the delights of The Netherlands dining scene.

Please note that this section is still under construction. We will soon have our own complete attractions and events database.

For the moment, we suggest the following sites to give you a taste of the attractions and events in The Netherlands.

   The Heineken Experience (Amsterdam).
The Heineken Experience is located at one of the most impressive industrial heritage sites of the Netherlands: the original Heineken brewery in Amsterdam. Its buildings span two centuries, the main parts dating from 1867 (the original building) and 1930 (a working brewery until 1988). In this unique environment, you'll experience Heineken's rich history and the tradition and craft of brewing. And the extraordinary story of the people behind this remarkable company, now the most international of its kind in the world.

   Madurodam (The Hague).
Madurodam miniature city, for more than 50 years Holland's smallest city, is opened all year round. The canal houses of Amsterdam, the Alkmaar cheese market and parts of the Delta Works, all replicated in minute detail on a 1:25 scale. All is set in beautiful gardens. Windmills turn, ships sail trough the harbour and trains are traversing the city on the world's largest miniature railway.

   Dolfinarium Sea Animal Park (Harderwijk).
Dolfinarium is the largest sea animal park of Europe. Opening season is 18 Februari until 29 October 2006. Website in Dutch only.

   Keukenhof Flower Garden (Lisse).
Every spring Keukenhof is a feast for the eye. Millions of tulips and other bulb flowers are then in bloom. A fantastic experience for people of all ages and a wonderful spectacle to photograph! An overwhelming display of colour in a beautiful setting covering an area of 32 hectares that incorporates elements of traditional and modern landscape gardening. The flower shows in the pavilions are unique. Part of the park has been redesigned for 2005. Surprising and inspiring, brimming with ideas, trends and features that you can apply in your own garden. Open only in the spring (2006: 23 March until 19 May)

   Euromast watchtower (Rotterdam).
High-speed elevators will take you to the observation plaform at a height of 100 meters. There you can enjoy the splendid view over Rotterdam and the world's largest harbour. Let the ten thousand lights of Rotterdam be the romantic setting of your dinner. Or a sunset in summer. Book the Euromast for a night and you’ll feel like playing the leading role in a Hollywood movie. At the Euromast you’re literally with your head in the clouds and you can forget about the day-to-day worries. The Euromast is open daily, all year round.

Castle Ruins and Velvet Cave (Valkenburg).
The origin of the velvet cave is a prehistoric sea bottum. For ages so-called "block-breakers" gained marlstone here, for the use of building houses and castles.

National Park Hoge Veluwe and Kröller-Müller Museum (Apeldoorn).
National Park De Hoge Veluwe is one of the Netherlands' oldest and largest national parks. It consists of no less than 5,500 hectares of woodland, heathland, lakes and driftsand. Together with the Kröller-Müller Museum and the sculpture garden it offers a unique combination of nature, art and architecture. The Kröller-Müller Museum is world-famous for its large collection of paintings by Vincent van Gogh: it features a magnificent selection of his work.

   Walibi World (Biddinghuizen)
Walibi World guarantees a day full of exciting moments for everyone. Do you like adventuring or just sensation? You will have pure fun in Walibi World with the Splash Battle, Goliath and more than 50 attractions and shows! Walibi World is currently closed. Re-opening of the park is planned on 14 April 2006!

   De Pier Watchtower (Scheveningen).
Together with hotel Kurhaus, the Pier in Scheveningen is a longtime attraction for The hague visitors. From here, you'll have a unique view at the Northe Sea and the Scheveningen boulevard. Sea Life animal zoo is within walking distance.

   Maritime Museum (Rotterdam).
The Maritime Museum Rotterdam is situated right in the heart of Rotterdam, five minutes’ walk from the Coolsingel and the Erasmus Bridge. Moored alongside, in all its glory, is the museum ship ‘Buffel’.

   Rotterdam Zoo.
Rotterdam Zoo (Diergaarde Blijdorp) is certainly one of the biggest attractions in the Netherlands. But Rotterdam Zoo is more than simply a tourist attraction. Top priorities are: nature conservation, recreation, education and applied scientific research.

   Haringvliet Expo Sluice Complex (Stellendam).
The Haringvliet waters lie between the south Holland islands of Voorne-Putten and Goeree-Overflakkee, and have always been the main route for river water from the Rhine, Meuse and the Waal to the North Sea. Approximately 60 % of the Dutch river water flows out through the Haringvliet sluice complex. In days gone by, the waters of the North Sea could flow far inland at high tide, so that tidal differences were even noticeable as far inland as the Biesbosch. Following the disastrous flood of 1953, the decision was taken to close off the Haringvliet from the North Sea means of a sluice complex. The complex ia a kilometer long and was completed in 1970.

   Duinrell Holiday Park (Wassenaar).
Discover the holiday world that both parents and children never want to leave: Duinrell Holiday and Amusement Park in the woodland and dune area on the coast of Holland! Enjoy variety of overnight accommodations, the fun filled amusement park and the tropical Tiki Pool.

Royal Delft manufacturer of delft blue porcelain (Delft).
Being the last remaining Delftware manufacturer surviving since the 17th century, Royal Delft is the oldest factory of its kind that still produces entirely hand painted Delft earthenware according to centuries-old tradition.

   The Efteling Fairytail Park (Kaatsheuvel).
The Efteling Hotel is a fairy-tale hotel built at the entrance to Efteling, the Enchanted Park. In this world of wonders fantasy, fairy-tales, excitement and adventure go hand in hand.
